Trail begins at the parking lot of the Adirondack Loj at Trail Register. Trail crosses Algonquin Brook via bridge at 0.4m and veers right. This section of trail crosses several ski trails which can make traveling easier during the winter. Trail reaches junction of Van Hoevenberg Trail and Algonquin Trail at 1.0 m. |

Stay to the Left at the Junction with the Algonquin Trail if you are coming from the Adirondack Loj. This section of trail is relatively flat, with some short climbs. Trail reaches Marcy Dam after 1.3 m. |

Once you reach Marcy Dam, you will cross the dam and come to a Trail Register. Marcy Dam has six (6) lean-tos that surround the pond. There is a small trail that circles the pond with gives access to the lean-tos. In 0.1 m the Van Hoevenberg Trail comes to a junction with the Avalanche Pass Trail. |

Heading from Marcy Dam, stay right onto the Avalanche Pass Trail marked with yellow markers. The trail starts out fairly level. You will cross two small bridges at around 0.3m and after the second bridge you will see a trail off to your right that leads to Kagel Lean-To after 0.4 m. |

After passing the Kagel Lean-To on your right coming from Marcy Dam, the trail becomes a steady gradient. At 0.4 m you will come to Marcy Brook Lean-To. |
