From the trail head, the trail starts out descending and then starts climbing at a moderate grade. After a half mile, the trail starts to climb steeply and then levels off just past a mile. From here, the trail alternates between moderate climbing to mostly level climbing. The trial then climbs a very steep section until you reach the junction with the Porter Mountain Trail after 2.1m.

From the summit of Porter Mountain, the trail descends lightly and then descends steeply until you reach the col between Porter and Cascade. From the col, the trail climbs up moderately until you reach the junction with the Cascade Mountain from Cascade Lake Trail after 0.7m.
