List of Trail Heads in the High Peaks Region

Adirondack Loj Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Adirondack Loj is run by the ADK Mountain Club and has accommodations for overnight stay. It is the most popular starting point for many High Peaks including Algonquin, Mt Colden, and Mt Marcy.
Big Slide via The Brothers Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Garden Parking Lot is a very popular spot for hikers to start off their hikes. The Big Slide via The Brothers Trail starts here and you have access to several hikes from The Garden including: Johns Brook Lodge, Mt Marcy, Mt Haystack, Saddleback Mtn, Gothics, Armstrong and the Wolfjaws.

Remember that there is no parking on Interbrook Road, and if you do your car will be towed. At several points the road is only one car width wide so parking on the road would not allow other cars to pass.
Cascade Mt From Cascade Lakes Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Cascade Mt from Cascade Lakes trail head is located on Rt 73 just north of the Cascade Lakes. The trail climbs up Cascade Mt with the option to traverse over to Porter. This is a very popular trail and is the shortest of the High Peaks, but also steep. Parking can be difficult because it is so busy, so make sure you get there early and only park in the parking lots and not on Rt 73.

Description:The trail is on the left if you are heading north on 73. The parking lot is about 30 yards north from the trail head. There is a small sign marking the trail head.
Giant via Ridge Trail Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:This is the trail head to Giant via the Ridge Trail. It is 3.0 miles to the summit of Giant with an ascent of 3050ft. Parking can get busy, if the parking lot if full, park in the Chapel Pond parking lot just north of the trail head. The trail is marked with ATIS markers.
Giant via Roaring Brook Trail Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The trail head is for Giant via Roaring Brook trail. The summit of Giant is 3.6 miles with an ascent of 3375ft. The parking lot is directly across of Rt 73 from the St. Huberts parking lot.
Johns Brook Lodge and Marcy via Phelps Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region

Description:Pitchoff Mountain is located north of Cascade Lakes and has a bare ridge that offers great views and blueberrys when in season. You can either start at the Pitchoff Trail Head which is located across from the Cascade trail head or from the Pitchoff East trail head which is just south of the Cascade Lakes.

Porter From Johns Brook Lodge Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Porter from Johns Brook Lodge Trail leads to the summit of Porter. It is a less traveled route, where as most people climb Cascade and traverse over to Porter from Cascade. The trail head is on Interbrook Road, otherwise known as Johns Brook Road. There is no parking on this road so please park your car up at the Garden Parking Lot and walk down to the trail head.
Porter from Keene Valley Airport Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Porter Mountain Trail Head is not as popular as the other two trails up Porter, but is more widely used to get up Blueberry Mountain. There is plenty of parking at the trail head.
Rooster Comb from Rt 73 Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Rooster Comb from Rt 73 trail head is the starting point to several hikes including Rooster Comb, Snow Mt, and Hedgehog Mtn.
Whiteface via Wilmington Trail Head In The Lake Placid and High Peaks Region
Description:The Whiteface via Wilmington Trail is probably the most popular of the two climbs up Whiteface. The trail head is located just off of the Whiteface Memorial Highway. The trail also allows you to climb up Esther and Marble Mt.
